Reykjavík Music Mess meðmæli #3 – Man Made
24.5.2012 - Kristjana
Þó hinn breski Nile Marr sé enn ungur að árum, ekki nema 19 ára, hefur hann verið að koma fram sem Man Made í fjögur ár nú þegar. Á síðustu árum hefur hann m.a. spilað með Broken Social Scene og Bright Eyes og í lok 2011 gaf hann út samnefnda EP plötu. Man Made hlaut ansi ágætis viðtökur og eftir útgáfuna túraði hann um Bretland og Evrópu með Howler.
Man Made er nú að undirbúa útgáfu næstu EP plötu sinnar og mun spila hér, þar og allstaðar á seinni hluta 2012.
Spurningarnar 5
Man Made var svo vingjarnlegur að svara spurningunum okkar 5:
What are your biggest influences?
“Modest Mouse are probably my biggest influence, I think mostly from being around them so much as a kid. Fugazi are a pretty big deal for me too, their whole ethos is a great code for a band to try to work by. As a guitar player though, i just want to be like John Reis in Hot Snakes. That guy’s playing is amazing.”
What’s next up for you after RvkMM?
“After this, I head back to the UK and I’m recording the next E.P. I’m doing it with some friends so I’m excited to see what happens. Then it’s back to playing shows, I want to be back in Iceland for Airwaves later in the year.”
What would you recommend seeing at RvkMM?
“There’s just so much on, I think if you’re planning on seeing anyone in particular you should forget it and just stay to see everyone.”
Best concert you’ve seen?
“Well, my current favourite would probably have to be seeing Hot Snakes play at the Brudenell in Leeds. It’s my favourite venue in the UK and it was Hot Snakes’ first UK tour in like 10 years or something stupid. I just figured they would be one of those bands I’d never get to see, and I was cool with that mind, so when they announced the shows, I freaked.
The Computers opened for them, and they were perfect. The singer started bleeding everywhere within the first 30 seconds, so you knew it was going to be a show. Then Hot Snakes came on and rocked it. I just parked myself front row, right infront of John Reis’ amp, it was a trip. That guy plays so loud and fast, and every riff he plays he looks like he’s just come up with it then and there. You can tell the guy really loves being a guitar player. I left that show totally deaf, and with all the merch I could get my hands on… FAN BOY !!!”
What are you listening to right now?
“Right now I’ve been listening to the last Eazy E record, Straight off the Streetz of Muthafuckin’ Compton quite a bit. The first Codeine album, Frigid Stars. I’ve found a whole new love of Moon Safari by Air. But mostly I’ve had the Meredith Sheldon record on loop. I think it’s out now. She’s amazing.”
